Early voting in Nashville starts this week: Here’s where, when and what to bring to vote – Tennessean

As the Nov. 3 election draws near, some Nashville voters are eyeing options for early voting to avoid crowds and long waits as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Early voting kicks off this week, running from Oct. 14 to Oct. 29 in Nashville.

Secretary of State Tre Hargett urged Tennesseans to wear masks when they go to the polls after visiting polling locations around the state in the early voting period in August.

“This year, we want you to practice good social distancing, and please take a face covering and wear that face covering inside the polls,” Hargett said in a Facebook video.

Here’s what you need to know about early voting in Tennessee:

Is it too late to register to vote?

Yes. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election was Oct. 5. To check your registration status or to learn more about how to register, visit govotetn.com.

Where can I vote early in Nashville?

Voters can cast their ballot at any of the following locations during early voting, regardless of where they live in Davidson County.

What are the hours for early voting?

Early voting locations all keep the same hours. Here’s the full schedule for the Oct. 14-29 early voting period. 

• Wednesday, Oct. 14: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 15: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. 
• Friday, Oct. 16: 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 17: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Monday, Oct. 19: 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, Oct. 20: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Wednesday, Oct. 21: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 22: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. 
• Friday, Oct. 23: 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Do I need to bring a photo ID to vote in Tennessee?

Yes. Voters in Tennessee must bring a valid photo identification card, which can include a driver’s license or photo ID issued by the state of Tennessee, a U.S. passport, a U.S. military photo ID or a Tennessee handgun carry permit that includes a photo.

College student IDs, city- or county-issued IDs and out-of-state photo IDs are not accepted.

What happens if I don’t bring a photo ID to my polling place?

You will have to cast a provisional ballot. You will then have two business days to return to the election commission office to show a valid photo identification. After that, you’ll have to sign an affidavit, and a copy of your ID will be made to be reviewed by the counting board.

Can I leave work to vote?

Employers are required to give their employees paid time off to vote provided they have been given notice.
