Following the cancelation of in-person events for the Williamson County Fair, the fair board announced June 29 that competitions for youth divisions will still be held this year through online applications only.

The Williamson County Fair Association also announced it will host virtual activities for families to participate in online in place of in-person events typically held at the Williamson County Ag Expo Park. The in-person events were canceled in accordance with guidance from local and state officials due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“For 15 consecutive years, we’ve welcomed hundreds of thousands to the Williamson County Fair for nine days of family fun,” said Rogers Anderson, Williamson County mayor and fair board chair, in a release. “Undoubtedly, this has been a time of much uncertainty, but we are encouraged by the support we have received from the community for our decision, and we know we will remember the 2020 virtual fair for years to come.”

Limited competitions will also be held in youth divisions for certain categories, including arts, crafts, photography, Lego builds, baked goods and horticulture, according to the announcement. Online entries can be submitted from July 1-30 at www.williamsoncountyfair.org.

“Competitive events are a key component of the fair every year, and we are excited to still give local youth the chance to show off their talents and creativity by offering online entries,” Youth Department Co-Chairman Mary Beth Antunes said in a release. “With families having been stuck at home for several months now, we hope the youth entry categories will spark new ideas and inspire fun projects for kids and teens.”

From Aug. 7-15, the fair will also offer virtual activities on its website, including family-friendly activities to download, educational videos to watch and a look back at past year’s entertainment. The annual 4H Livestock Expo and Auction will be held the week before and will be recorded to view during the fair week at the fair’s Facebook page and other social media accounts.
