UPDATE (10:56 am): Metro Nashville Police have identified the driver of a Nissan Sentra killed in a hit-and-run crash as a 26-year-old TSU student.

Police say 26-year-old Vybhav Gopisetty was an international student at TSU from India. His family in India has been notified and police are working to notify the family of his 23-year-old female passenger who was also killed.

Metro Police are seeking a 26-year-old man as a person of interest in a hit-and-run that killed two people in South Nashville on Thanksgiving.

MNPD said David Torres’ pickup was the at-fault vehicle in the crash that left two dead. The driver of the pickup fled the scene on foot, but the description from witnesses match Torres’ appearance.

Police said Torres’ 2011 GMC pickup hit a 2015 Nissan Sentra at 7:35 p.m. as the car was attempting to leave the parking lot of U.S. Bank to Walmart at 4040 Nolensville Pike. Witnesses said the truck was speeding and ran a red light on Nolensville Pike at Harding Place when it hit the passenger side of the Sentra. The car went off the road and went through a fence before slamming into a tree on the Walmart property.

Witnesses said the truck driver then left the scene.

Two people were in the Sentra and both were wearing seat belts, but they both were killed in the crash. A 23-year-old female passenger died at the scene, and 26-year-old male driver died after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police are attempting to contact the victims’ families.

David Torres’ last known address was on Cedarmont Drive, and police are asking that anyone with any information call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
