Titans president says team is hopeful it will host fans in October – NewsChannel5.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — With less than two weeks to go before the Tennessee Titans’ home opener, the organization’s president and CEO says the team remains hopeful that it will soon host fans at Nissan Stadium. However, he said that’s up to the mayor’s office.

Burke Nihill made the remarks Tuesday, saying the Titans are actively engaged in conversations with Mayor John Cooper’s Office. The team hopes to host fans in October, but Nihill says that’s still very preliminary at this point.

For a potential Oct. 4 return – the team’s second home game of the season – Nihill says the team would need to know within a week to 10 days. He called the team’s stadium plan “first class,” adding that he believes fans going to Nissan Stadium will be one of the “safest things people can do.”

Earlier this month, Mayor Cooper announced the team would play its home opener against Jacksonville on Sunday, Sept. 20, without fans.

Nashville remains in its modified Phase Two plan of reopening. Currently, weddings, funerals and other ceremonial events at venues can be held at one-third capacity – up to a max of 125 people, with face masks and social distancing in use.

The Titans kick off the 2020 season on the road next Monday against the Denver Broncos.
