Join Dr. Richard Bell in a discussion on Hamilton and the marriage of history and show-business at the Tennessee State Museum (TSM) on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2 p.m.
“Hamilton: How the Musical Remixes American History” is aimed at adults who know the soundtrack and/or who’ve seen the show. Come learn what this amazing musical gets right and gets wrong about Alexander Hamilton, the American Revolution, and the birth of the United States and about why all that matters. In it University of Maryland historian Dr. Richard Bell explores this musical phenomenon to reveal what its success tells us about the marriage of history and show-business.
Bell will examine some of the choices Hamilton’s creators made to simplify, dramatize, and humanize the complicated events and stories on which the show is based. He will also talk about Hamilton’s cultural impact: what does its runaway success reveal about the stories we tell each other about who we are and about the nation we made.
This thrilling presentation has already entertained large sold-out audiences at Smithsonian, the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh and a dozens of other cultural institutions throughout the country. Hamilton performances run through Saturday, January 19, 2020 in the Andrew Jackson Hall of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in downtown Nashville. Last week, we told you about how to get $10 tickets through the Ticket Lottery.
The #HAM4HAM lottery in Nashville will offer 40 tickets for each performance for only $10 each. Hamilton visit http://hamiltonmusical.com/lottery to register. You must be 18 years or older and have a valid, non-expired photo ID that matches the name used to enter. Tickets are non-transferable. The lottery will open at 11:00 a.m. two days prior to the performance date and will close for entry at 9:00 a.m. the day prior to the performance.

Join in with fellow “Hamilfans” for a sing-a-long performance, led by talented song leaders who perform through the entire show.
