A crowd of nearly 500 gathered last week at Nissan Stadium for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Partnership 2020 celebration of recent economic development announcements and the honoring of six community leaders with Spirit of the Region awards.
The crowd at the stadium’s West Club heard from Amy Liu, vice president and director of the Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institution, about a broad vision of economic development that can deliver growth, prosperity and inclusion for all residents. Receiving the Spirit of the Region awards were:
• Former Gov. Bill Haslam
• Milton Johnson, former HCA Healthcare Chairman and CEO
• Ex-Conexion Americas leader Renata Soto
• Jerry Williams, who this summer retired from Leadership Nashville after 25 years
• Former Vanderbilt University chancellor Nick Zeppos
• David Williams, the late Vanderbilt vice chancellor for university affairs and athletics.
“Since 2008, the Chamber’s annual awards have honored individuals and companies that have contributed the most toward our organization’s purpose of creating economic prosperity by facilitating community leadership,” said Ralph Schulz, president and CEO of the chamber. “These individuals embody the Chamber’s brand promise to belong, engage, lead and prosper while helping position Middle Tennessee for continued success.”
