NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The threat for rain changing to snow Tuesday afternoon has prompted a Storm 5 Alert for the Middle Tennessee area.

A powerful cold front will move in tonight, increasing rain chances this evening. Temperatures will be falling behind this front, leading to rain transitioning to snow. This transition could happen as early as mid-morning around Nashville.

Our ground will be warm and wet so even with snow falling, it will not immediately stick. The most likely scenario is a dusting to a tenth of an inch for most spots on grassy and elevated surfaces. Higher amounts up to 1/2-1″ are possible for higher elevations.

Keep in mind that timing and accumulations are likely to change — the key factor will be how quickly the cold air arrives and how much moisture is left.
