CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Protesters gathered on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard on Saturday, May 30, 2020,  in front of Governor’s Square Mall as part of a national response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who died while in police custody.

A diverse crowd of demonstrators, whose numbers grew throughout the day, waved signs and interacted with passing traffic, many honking in response.

Clarksville Police officers arrived on the scene at approximately 7:10 p.m. to direct traffic and speak with demonstrators.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts, his wife, and several city council members arrived on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard to speak with protesters and law enforcement.
