NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man has died two weeks after being critically injured in a bar fight in Nashville.

52-year-old Jamie Mitchell has been in a coma since the fight on Aug. 23. Metro Nashville Police officials say he was punched and knocked to the ground outside Rebar on Blackwood Drive on the east side of Nashville past the Nashville Airport.

Police had charged 52-year-old Brian Vantassel with felony aggravated assault the day after the incident. Vantassel is presently free on $25,000 bond.

Hermitage Precinct detectives are in contact with the District Attorney’s Office concerning possibly changing the charge against him in light of Mitchell’s death.

Vantassel is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on Sept. 17.
