News ‘Lost’ bear in Nashville likely on the move from Kentucky Chris Conte 4:47 PM – NewsChannel5.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — When a bear gets lost in the woods most people never notice but when a bear wondered into a Davidson County neighborhood over the weekend it gained quite a following.

The black bear was captured on trail cameras in a large wooded area behind Hunters Land High School. Officials with the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency believe the black bear is likely a male, who wondered down from Kentucky.

“He’s just doing bear things, he’s staying in the woods, not dealing with people,” says Barry Cross with the TWRA.

Officials with the TWRA believe the bear may end up hibernating in middle Tennessee this winter. Which is a bit unusual considering the area does not have a bear population. Officials are urging folks not to come into contact with the bear but also say there’s no real reason to be alarmed.

“Black bears aren’t as predatory as you would think. They’re classified as carnivores but they mainly eat nuts and berries,” Cross said.

The TWRA is also reminding residents that there is no bear hunting season in Middle Tennessee.
