NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — As Nissan Stadium reopens and welcomes back fans for Tennessee Titans and Nashville Soccer Club events, the venue has a new smoke-free policy in place.

This comes following the launch of the Musicians for a Smokefree Nashville, a coalition of artists encouraging Nashville to go smoke-free in all live venues.

Many NFL venues have already eliminated smoking. The Titans join 26 of the 32 teams in making their stadium smoke-free.

“Nissan Stadium is proud to join the list of venues supporting a smoke-free Nashville,” Gil Beverly, Titans senior vice president, chief marketing and revenue officer, said. “Research shows that the dangers of secondhand smoke in outdoor venues can be nearly as dangerous as when indoors. Certainly with the COVID-19 pandemic in mind, this decision was an easy one to make. We thank the Musicians for a Smokefree Nashville for spreading this message and look forward to providing our fans and future performers an even safer Nissan Stadium experience.”

Nashville Public Health Director Michael Caldwell says smoking increases one’s susceptibility to COVID-19, while also interfering with the city’s goal of assuring that everyone is wearing a face mask as much as possible.

“We are truly honored to have the Titans support of our coalition and cause,” Musicians for a Smokefree Nashville Founder Jamie Kent said. “There’s no bigger venue in Nashville, so their pledge and support provides a shining example to decision makers and other venues. We can’t wait to get back to work, and we want to do it in the healthiest way possible.”

Musicians for a Smokefree Nashville asks other venues and organizations in the Nashville community to sign their pledge to be smoke-free. More information on the coalition can be found at the Musicians for a Smokefree Nashville website.
