Middle Tennessee State receiver Zack Dobson has always showed a lot of potential, but it appears he won’t reach that potential in a Blue Raiders uniform.

The sophomore receiver announced via Twitter on Thursday that he has entered the NCAA transfer portal. He has two years of eligibility left.

“I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal,” Dobson tweeted on Thursday. “I want to thank all of the coaches at MTSU for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the team. They have taught me so much about the sport and how to be a great student-athlete. I also want to thank all the players at MTSU; we have built a brotherhood and I am excited to see where each of our journeys take us.

“While I am grateful for my time at Middle Tennessee State University, I know that I have to make decisions that best serve myself and my family, thus my recruitment is now open. I am excited to see where my next two years will take me.”

Dobson saw limited action last season, starting four of the eight games he played in. He finished with 16 receptions for 242 yards and three touchdowns. As a freshman, he recorded 15 receptions for 171 yards and four TDs. He also added 33 carries for 327 yards rushing and one score on the ground in his two seasons.

Dobson was a three-star athlete out of Fulton High School in Knoxville. He was rated the No. 33 prospect in Tennessee and the No. 59-ranked athlete. He wore jersey No. 24 to honor his brother Zaevion, who was killed on Dec. 17, 2015, after shielding two girls from gunfire.

Dobson is the second Blue Raider to enter the transfer portal after reserve quarterback Randall Johnson did so last month.
