With a little over a year until NASCAR makes its return to the Nashville Superspeedway, the track made more headlines over the weekend, naming Erik Moses as its new president, as announced by Dover MotorSports.

He is the first black track president in NASCAR history.

“I am excited to join the team at Dover Motorsports to lead the reopening of the Nashville Superspeedway and bring the excitement of Cup Series racing to Middle Tennessee,” Moses said in a release.

“I have long admired NASCAR for its commitment to the fan experience and am thrilled to have the opportunity to create the optimal race day experience that NASCAR fans deserve in a market that has such a rich history with the sport.”

Prior to joining the Super Speedway, Moses was team president of the DC Defenders of the XFL before the team filed for bankruptcy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Defenders ranked among the XFL’s best in ticket sales, game day experience and social media engagement.

Moses has held several sports leadership positions including senior vice president at Events DC, CEO of DC Sports & Entertainment Commission and D.C. Department of Small and Local Business Development director.

The 1.33-mile track in Wilson County’s Gladeville has been largely unused since NASCAR stop holding Xfinity Series races there in 2011. NASCAR announced earlier this year that it would be returning to the track in June 2021.

“Nashville is one of the hottest markets for sports, entertainment and live events in the entire country,” Moses continued. “I look forward to working with local stakeholders and partners to leverage that momentum to establish the Superspeedway as a premier live events venue serving the greater Nashville region.”
