Diane Turnham, a longtime member of the Middle Tennessee State athletics department, will serve as chair of the NCAA Division I women’s basketball committee for the next two seasons.

Turnham has served on the committee for the past four years.

The NCAA announced the appointment Wednesday.

“I am extremely humbled that my committee colleagues asked that I serve as chair during the coming season,” she said in a release. “… It continues to be an honor to work alongside such an outstanding team who is dedicated to the continued growth of the sport of women’s basketball and by working to ensure we provide the best championship experience for our student-athletes and fans.”

Turnham has been a part of the MTSU athletics department for 37 years and twice has served as interim athletics director. She was inducted into the school’s athletics hall of fame in 2012.

She currently serves as senior associate athletics director, in which she is lead administrator for women’s basketball and volleyball, oversees all women’s sports and is deputy Title IX coordinator for athletics.

Previously, she served on the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee (2004-08) and the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee (2009-12). She was chair of the soccer committee in 2008 and chair of the volleyball committee in 2011-12.
