Man causes stir on top of car at 70 mph from Mt. Juliet to Nashville down I-40 – The Tennessean

A man riding on top of a car at a high rate of speed in Mt. Juliet and Davidson County down Interstate 40 created quite a stir Thursday.

The unknown man sat on top of the car on I-40 at speeds that were estimated at 70 miles per hour at around 3:50 p.m., onlooker Bobby Reynolds said.

“He was smiling and giving a big thumbs up. I just couldn’t believe it,” Reynolds said.

The man was seen laying down on his stomach down on Mt. Juliet Road and then on the I-40 ramp before getting on the interstate according to social media posts.

Mt. Juliet police were called as the car entered I-40, Captain Tyler Chandler said.

An officer was dispatched, but did not catch up and the department alerted Nashville police and the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Nashville police weren’t aware of any citation issued.

“Of course we would love to know who the driver was, along with the person clinging to the vehicle,” Chandler said.

Jodi Dedeyan saw the man on top of the car well into Nashville on Fairfield Avenue around the underpass in slower traffic as other motorists were honking horns and “egging him on,” she said.

“I couldn’t believe he went that far,” she said after later finding out on social media the man was in Mt. Juliet.
