Gov. Bill Lee has chosen a Knox County Circuit Court judge to fill the Tennessee Court of Appeals vacancy created by the retirement of longtime judge Charles Susano Jr.

Kristi Davis has served as Knox County Circuit Court Judge since 2014 and was presiding judge for the Sixth Judicial District in 2018-19. She previously was an attorney at Hodges Doughty & Carson in Knoxville and clerked for Judge Joseph Tipton on the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals.

“Kristi Davis has an extensive background in civil cases as both an attorney and judge, and she will be an exceptional addition to the Court of Appeals,” Lee said. “I’m grateful for her willingness to serve and am proud to appoint her to this important position.”

Susano stepped down at the end of April after more than 25 years at the 12-member court. The lifelong Knoxvillian was appointed in 1994 by Gov. Ned McWherter and re-elected four times and was the appeals court’s presiding judge from 2012-14.
