PRESCOTT – Newly appointed Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) baseball head coach Geoff Fox has been named the 2019 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year for NCAA Division III.

“It is with great humility that I accept this award,” Fox commented. “To even be mentioned in the same breath as so many great teachers and leaders of young men in our sport is very humbling.”

The 2019 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coaches of the Year have been announced in all 11 divisions: NCAA Div. I, NCAA Div. II, III, NAIA, NJCAA Div. I, II & III and High School Div. I, II and III. The 11 honorees will be recognized at the 76th annual ABCA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 in the clinic hall!

The ABCA and Baseball America began honoring a National Assistant Coach of the Year annually in 1999. Coaching expertise, recruiting, loyalty to the program and respect for the players and the game are some of the many criteria examined when reviewing the candidates for the award.

Geoff Fox joined the Chapman coaching staff in 2014 after spending eight seasons as an assistant at Saddleback College. During his time at Chapman, the Panthers won nearly 70 percent of their games and captured SCIAC Tournament titles in 2018 and 2019. The 2019 season also culminated in the program’s second NCAA Div. III national championship.

“My award is a byproduct of the young men who embraced our philosophies and executed them in a truly special and inspiring way that lead to some amazing accomplishments on and off the field,” Fox continued. “I am truly indebted to each of them. At Embry-Riddle we will instill in our young men those same philosophies which ultimately will lead to a baseball program both our athletic department and university will be proud of,” concluded Fox.

Fox takes the helm of a brand new program in Prescott with eyes on another national championship at the NAIA level. With a rich history of successful baseball programs in the quad-cities, Fox will have a great opportunity to build upon his already impressive resume.
