Concerts and Events Moved, Postponed or Canceled Due to Severe Weather [Updated] – Nashville Scene

The damage from Tuesday morning’s tornado has affected a wide swath of Nashvillians and their homes and businesses. Of course, that includes an array of folks who work in music and other entertainment-related fields. Some businesses will be closed for a day or two to give staff a chance to recover. Others, like much-loved East Nashville club The Basement East, which opened in April 2015, will take a lot longer to bounce back. 

The Five Points area, home to numerous bars, restaurants and clubs, was hit hard by the storm, and like many of its neighbors, the building housing The Basement East sustained major damage. Thankfully, Monday night’s concert in support of Bernie Sanders’ campaign was over before the tornado hit. Staffers who were still on site took shelter in the venue’s basement, and no one was hurt. According to a Facebook post from co-owner Mike Grimes, plans are in the works to bring the Beast back, but for now, the venue is closed indefinitely.

Below, we’ve rounded up information about events at The Basement East and elsewhere that have been canceled, postponed or moved to different venues. A handful of benefit events have been announced. Area businesses are also offering hot meals or places for neighbors to rest (see Edley’s, Duke’s and Dino’s). Also, keep an eye on J.R. Shows Originally Booked at The Basement East

• Tuesday night’s show featuring L.A. pop artist Elohim at The Basement East has been canceled, and refunds will be available through Ticketweb.
• A Night of Rage: Rage Against the Machine Tribute scheduled for Thursday, March 5, has been canceled, and refunds will be available via Ticketweb.
• Fruition, scheduled for Friday, March 6, has moved to Third Man Records’ Blue Room.
• Archers of Loaf, scheduled for Saturday, March 7, has moved to Cannery Ballroom. All tickets will be honored.
• The Moth StorySlam: Challenge, originally scheduled for Sunday, March 8, has been canceled. Refunds will be available via Tickeweb.
• Rising country artist Hailey Whitters’ show on Tuesday, March 10, has been moved to Exit/In. All tickets will be honored, and all proceeds will go to tornado relief.
• Damon Johnson, on Wednesday, March 11, has been canceled. Refunds available via Ticketweb.
• Atlanta rockers The Black Lips’ show on Thursday, March 12, has been moved to Mercy Lounge. All tickets will be honored.

Cancellations and Postponements at Other Venues

• Amazingly, Five Points club The 5 Spot was not damaged. However, the venue is without power and remains closed until further notice.
• Little Harpeth Brewing sustained some damage and is also closed until further notice. The next show on their calendar is Today Is the Day on Saturday, March 7. Today Is the Day and The Obsessed will play Springwater that night, while the other two bands on the bill, Kayo Dot and Psalm Zero, will play at Media Rerun in Murfreesboro.
• Similarly, Of Montreal’s March 14 show at Little Harpeth has moved to Cannery Ballroom.
• The Oz Arts facility escaped harm, but damage in their Cockrill Bend area is extensive. As a consequence, the Thursday, March 5, performance by TeatroCinema has been canceled, and the March 6 and 7 performances will now take place at TPAC’s Johnson Theater.
• Grimey’s New and Preloved Music will be taking donations to help displaced staffers from The Basement East.
• Community radio station WXNA-LPFM’s terrestrial broadcast transmitter isn’t working, but the station is streaming on its website.
• The March 3 performance of Jesus Christ Superstar at TPAC has been canceled. TPAC is resuming normal business hours and showtimes as of March 4, and options for replacement tickets for those who had March 3 tickets are available here.
• Proceeds from bluegrass musician David Starr’s March 4 album release show at the Station Inn will benefit Hands On Nashville.
• The Frist Art Museum is offering free admission through Friday, March 6.
• Mavericks lead singer Raul Malo‘s March 3 solo show at City Winery has been canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date. His March 4 show is set to proceed as scheduled.
• Third Man Records’ storefront is undamaged but will remain closed March 3.
• The East Room is undamaged, but will remain closed March 3.
• March 3 concerts by Brian Thomas and Tyler Dial at 3rd and Lindsley have been canceled.
• Experimental electronic artist Yves Tumor’s March 3 performance at Exit/In will continue as scheduled. Proceeds from the venue and the adjoining bar The Hurry Back will benefit Gideon’s Army.
• Donations will be accepted for The Basement East at the March 3 edition of New Faces Night at The Basement (the original club on Eighth Avenue South).
