Nicky’s Coal Fired Bagel Shop adds new locations, Tennessee Brew Works adds airport bar, Fat Bottom launches Hop Yard residency series

Nickys BagelsPhoto: www.facebook.com/nickysnashvilleBig things are happening in the Nations as two favorite residents expand their offerings — and across town, another brewery is setting up shop permanently at the airport. The first expansions come courtesy of Nicky’s Coal Fired, which has added two permanent pop-ups for its popular bagel program. Beginning Saturday, Oct. 10, Nicky’s Coal Fired Bagel Shop will offer its delectable coal-fired bagels in East Nashville at Otaku to Go (604 Gallatin Ave.) and in 12South at Jeremy Barlow’s Sloco/Insert Chef Here shop (2905 12th Ave. S) every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon, or whenever supplies run out. All bagels are baked fresh in Nicky’s coal oven in the Nations every morning before service. They’ll be offering bags of bagels and cream cheese, breakfast sandwiches, lox sandwiches and coffee. For more info and to place preorders, visit the Nicky’s website

The second new development in the Nations is at Fat Bottom Brewing, where they’re launching a new residency concept. Fat Bottom will be partnering with local food brands, chefs and restaurants to bring rotating menus and new flavors to their popular Hop Yard biergarten. Kicking off Oct. 8, they’ll showcase the popular loaded gourmet mac-and-cheese food truck, The Mac Shack, operated by former Fat Bottom employee Jeremy Nicholson and his wife Kayla.

“I’m excited to kick off the kitchen residency with our friends from The Mac Shack,” says Ben Bredesen, owner and founder of Fat Bottom Brewing. “This collaboration will provide a new, unique menu at The Hop Yard and allows us at Fat Bottom to stay focused on brewing and packaging great beer, to go along with Jeremy and Kayla’s great food.”

Mac ShackPhoto: www.facebook.com/TheMacShackNashvilleThe Mac Shack is known for using local ingredients to make its gourmet mac-and-cheese creations. Here’s how they describe the menu in the official announcement: “In addition to their regularly rotating list of Macs, like fan-favorite Memphis Mac (smoked gouda pimento Mac with Memphis-style BBQ topped with slaw) and Mac Shack signature dishes such as OG Chicken n’ Mac Waffles (Mac stuffed waffle topped with batter-fried chicken tenders, chives and maple syrup) they’ll also be offering several new menu items only available at The Hop Yard. New menu items include the Beer Mac (made with Fat Bottom’s Ida Golden Ale, Mac and loaded with shoestring fried onions and chives) and a Fried Goat Cheese Salad (fried panko crusted goat cheese, red onion, cherry tomato, pomegranate seeds and candied pecans with a housemade pear-vinaigrette dressing).”

The Mac Shack food truck will continue service outside of its kitchen residency at the taproom. Visit The Hop Yard at Fat Bottom Monday and Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from noon until 11 p.m.

In further brewery news, after a few years operating out of a kiosk at the junctions of terminals A and B at the Nashville Airport, Tennessee Brew Works has opened an honest-to-goodness bar near the same location as part of the airport’s BNA Vision plan, which aims to bring more than 90 new food and retail locations to the airport by 2023.

The new bar will serve Tennessee Brew Works beers on draft, Tennessee Spirits, beer cocktails and wine that travelers can enjoy at the bar or carry to the gate (but not the plane, so chug!). Additionally, they’ll offer Tennessee Brew Works “Flight Packs” of their local beers to provide passengers with the opportunity to take craft beer souvenirs with them to their destinations. They must remain sealed on the plane, unless you brought enough to share with everyone. (Not really.)

TBW Bar“We are proud to represent local craft beer at the Nashville International Airport,” says Christian Spears, founder and president of Tennessee Brew Works. “Our brewery was created in celebration of the land, traditions and culture of Tennessee, and we are excited to share our brews with visitors to our great state.”

Tennessee Brew Works’ beers Hippies & Cowboys, State Park Blonde Ale, Southern Wit, Extra Easy Ale, 1927 IPA and a limited small batch on rotation will be available at the bar.

Additionally, Tennessee Brew Works Beer Cocktails will be served, to include: Extra Easy Old Fashioned, featuring Extra Easy Ale and George Dickel No. 12; the Hippie Shandy, with Hippies & Cowboys and house-made lemonade; the 1927 Paloma, served with 1927 IPA, Nashville’s TC Craft tequila and freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice; and the Southern Wit-A-Rita, with the delicious Belgian-style White Ale, TC Craft Tequila, Triple Sec and Fresh Lime Juice.

That might just be enough to get me on a plane again for the first time since March!
