Affidavit: Woman charged in crash that killed Brentwood officer had BAC double the legal limit – NewsChannel5.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The woman charged in a crash that killed a Brentwood police officer last week had a blood alcohol concentration of more than double the legal limit, according to an affidavit.

Authorities have charged Ashley Kroese with vehicular homicide by intoxication in the crash that killed officer Destin Legieza on June 18. If convicted, the charge carries an eight to 12-year sentence.

An affidavit from Williamson County General Sessions court said the 24-year-old had a BAC of .166 and was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes at the time of the crash. Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers said Kroese was also traveling without any headlights.

Troopers said that video from the Brentwood Market and Deli, which is located across from where the crash happened, showed Kroese’s Jeep Liberty traveling in the wrong lane at the time of impact.

Both were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Legieza died. He is the first Brentwood officer to die in the line of duty. His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday.

Williamson County Judge M.T. Taylor set a $750,000 bond in the case.

Williamson County District Attorney Kim Helper said Kroese – who has dual citizenship – is a flight risk due to the “nature of the crime and likelihood of conviction.”
