University of Tennessee officials last week joined a number of other Southeastern Conference schools by planning to allow for the sale of beer and wine at their home football games.

“The game day experience at Neyland Stadium is historic and unrivaled, and I’m confident these new concessions options will aid our continued efforts to enhance that experience for Tennessee fans and visitors throughout the stadium,” Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer said in a statement.

UT’s decision — which will become effective Sept. 7 for the game against BYU — comes shortly after the SEC said it would allow league members to sell beer and wine during athletic events. Vanderbilt University vice chancellor for athletics and university affairs Malcolm Turner last week said his team also will allow alcohol sales at Vanderbilt Stadium starting with the team’s Aug. 31 season opener against Georgia.

UT officials, like their Vanderbilt peers, say they are still working through the process of selling alcohol at other Volunteers venues. Other SEC schools that have moved to sell alcohol at their events are Arkansas, LSU, Missouri and Texas A&M.
