Plans Moving Forward For Music City Grand Prix | SPEED SPORT – SPEED SPORT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A proposed NTT IndyCar Series event on the streets of Nashville, Tenn., took a step in the right direction this week.
The organizers of the Music City Grand Prix hosted NTT IndyCar Series owner Roger Penske and IndyCar executives at Nissan Stadium Thursday to discuss potential plans for the event. Also present were staff members from the Tennessee Titans and other key stakeholders.
“We collectively agreed to work toward finalizing an agreement to bring an urban racing festival to Nashville with a presence at Nissan Stadium,” Music City Grand Prix organizers said in a statement issued Friday morning. “While we are all excited by the Music City Grand Prix plans, to be clear this process is not finalized.”
The Tennessean reported Friday that the target date for proposed event would be sometime in August of 2021.
While the NTT IndyCar Series has never raced on the streets of Nashville, the series has raced in the area in the past. Nashville Superspeedway hosted the series from 2001 to ’08.
“MCGP has been very deliberate in our planning, particularly in light of the evolving challenges that COVID-19 has presented,” the Music City Grand Prix statement read. “MCGP will continue to be thoughtful and thorough in our preparation and communications in order to create an event that meets our vision, delivers for IndyCar and reflects the high standards Nashville has set for major annual events. We look forward to sharing more information once agreements are fully completed.”
