Obituary for Larry Wayne Mathews

Larry Wayne Mathews, age 69 of Hendersonville, passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, August 23, 2020.

Larry was most known for his avid love of animals and support of the ASPCA and Humane Society of Sumner County. He could be found building heated houses for stray cats, opossums, and raccoons during the winter as well as feeding anything on four legs that would walk through his yard. He was a proud Army veteran and patriot who loved our American flag. You would find him on the sidelines of a Hendersonville Commando football game cheering on his Commando’s or walking the aisles of Lowes or Harbor Freight looking for the next tool to add to his collection. He enjoyed spending his summer Saturday nights down at the race track and loved all things NASCAR. He was a tinkerer of all sorts and loved working in his garage or on his red F150. Larry firmly believed that the ’69 Ford Mustang was a gift from God. His witty sense of humor and ability to crack a joke in any situation made him endearing and a delight to be around. Those that knew his softer side know of his love of yellow buttercups, Motown, Neil Diamond, and doting over his cats.

Obituary for Lyle Ruiz Bennett

“Old man take a look at my life, I’m a lot like you were.” We all are, because he was so many things

On August 21, 2020 at around 3:30 in the morning, after a long and brave fight with cancer, Lyle Ruiz Bennett Sr. departed peacefully to his next adventure. He told us he was ready and had his bags packed, no passport needed. We are all sure his bags were carefully and thoughtfully packed and also had bags hanging off of those bags. He was ever the lover of travel and all facets of travel. Bags and stuff and style were a huge priority in his life. He was a maven of fashion and accessories till the very end. Dare we say his ultimate accessories were his huge family? He decided long ago he never wanted to be alone and that family was the most important part of his life. He was true to that, always there if you needed him. We would say he was the best playlist man you’d ever meet. He had such a love and appreciation of music. He was a wine, port and whiskey expert also, so he said. So many great stories about those things. He was expressive, humorous, clever, witty, funny. A jokester. The Joker. He was a color-changing LED fan. He was never boring, for sure. He was so, so smart and loved to teach. He knew the way. If it wasn’t just so, he’d hack. He was a figure-outer. That was part of the fun of life for him. Always an easy master of sport. At Central High School in Murfreesboro, TN he played football and wrestled. After high school and through college he mastered it all, too many to name, really. Roofer, herbalist, scuba diver, explorer, survivalist, technologist, Jedi Master and the list goes on. Golf was his last favorite sport. He would come home after a round and tell stories about how he “lost another friend” because of how badly he beat them. He was also an avid fan of the college football. He was a yelling at the tv type of a guy. It was fun to watch and it was fun to be around him. His knowledge of the world was vast. Partly because he loved to read up on the news, but also because he travelled so much. I bet if I had a map and randomly pointed he’d of gone there and also would be able to tell you a story of it. His story would be about a person he met, and a thing he did, a food he ate, how he single-handedly did whatever it was. He had so many stories. He could talk to anyone. He would make friends with them all.

Surviving him is his wife, Kelly Tolson; his aunt, Dusty Bennett; brother, David Bennett; his 9 children: Melanie Cagle, Sunny Bennett, Christopher Bennett, Aaron Bennett, Lyle Ruiz Bennett Jr., David Bennett, Jared Bennett, Rachel Bennett, and Adrienne Westergard; plus his grandchildren, In-Laws, cousins and a wide group of the very best friends a person could ever ask for.

floral squareAll in all, Lyle was a spiritual man. A believer of angels and miracles. His energy was vast, is vast still, and will remain forever vast. He said if you wanted to talk with him. Just talk. He will be there, and will continue to be there, if you need him. We love you Lyle, Lylito, Grandpa, Papa, DaddiO, Lovie. Thanks for giving us your time and sharing everything you gave. You will be missed by many many people.

Celebration of Lyle’s Life will be September 6, 2020, from 2:30-7pm. Details can be found by joining our Facebook group: Lyle Loved Life or by emailing: lylelovedlife@gmail.com.

Obituary for Cynthia Seibert

Cynthia Seibert was born as Kreszenz Suppmayer in Scheyern, Bavaria on Aug 30, 1924. Scheyern was a small community for centuries that derived its life from the Kloster Scheyern beginning as a Benedictine Monastery around the year 1120. In about 1922, her family of four moved into a house which had been the office of the burgermeister and the town’s jail in the 1800’s. Eventually, four more sisters and two of their children would be born in the same house. They lived within direct sight of Kloster Scheyern which flourishes to this day, is known as Scheyern Abbey, and is still under the direction of the Benedictines.

Kreszenz, as surely as most of the local children did, received her secular and Catholic education at the school founded by the abbey in 1838 and which continued classes until the Nazis closed the school in 1939.

As a young teenager, Cynthia was attending school to be a teacher. Those plans ended with the death of her father and with the upheaval of WW2. As the 2nd oldest of the sisters, her mother summoned her back home to help the now fatherless family. She got work in a baby food factory in Munich, about 35 miles away. She narrowly escaped from her temporary home during one of the many aerial bombing and strafing attacks of WW2. Afterwards, she was able to catch a train back to Scheyern where the aerial attacks were not as devastating. They often lent a room to refugees who came from the bombed cities, and the sisters would just pack themselves into another room.

After the war, the German people were destitute and competed for any work that was doled out by the Allied occupation armies or by their appointees. It was while working at the local US Army Camp that she met Sgt. Louis Stanley Seibert of the 116th Signal Service Company, and they married in Scheyern.

After coming to the United States, Kreszenz became a US citizen and then legally changed her name to Cynthia, as many immigrants did to ‘Americanize’ their names. The family which soon included daughter, Dolores (Heidi), and son, Louis, lived in Italy, NC, OH, AL, and GA. She was a full time ‘hausfrau’ and mother to her two children, Dolores (Heidi) and Louis. She introduced her children to church attendance, the Catholic faith, and catechism at an early age. Then in 1966, her husband unexpectedly died.

Remaining a widow thereafter, she became a department manager at Roses Department stores. She was a frequent volunteer at the Augusta, GA Veterans Administration hospitals. After Louis left for college and career, her local family was her eldest sister Betty and her middle sister Theresa, whom also lived in Augusta. All of the families attended St. Joseph Church.

In 1996, she moved to Dothan, AL to live with son, Louis and daughter-in-law, Michelle. For five years in Dothan, she was an active member at St. Columba Church and a regular volunteer at Catholic Social Services in town.

In 2001, she moved to Hendersonville where she sought out her final church home, namely OLOL. She was a regular member of her ladies Bible group and at her weekly chapel adoration prayer group until such time as her failing eyesight and other health issues prevented her.

Cynthia suffered a massive stroke on August 18th and then died on the 19th, 11 days before her 96th birthday. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty, Theresa, Agnes, and Regine, all of whom migrated either to the USA or to Canada after WW2. Her youngest sister, Marianne, still lives in Germany. She also leaves behind her daughter Heidi, her son Louis, her grand-daughters Lisa and Kristine, and one great grandson, Ryan.

floral squareThe family received friends on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 11:00am until her Funeral Mass at 1:00pm at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church with Father Luke Wilgenbusch officiating.

Interment was with her husband in Marietta National Cemetery in Georgia on August 28 at 1:00pm
