Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2020 results and star ratings revealed – Mirror Online

Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary 2020 promised a lot and largely speaking delivered on that promise.

With the event tying in with the 90-day release clause date of a number of former WWE talents, the rumour mill was churning as to who would make an appearance on the show.

And Impact Wrestling did not disappoint, giving us the return of former TNA Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin), an appearance from Heath (formerly Heath Slater) and Eric Young taking up the mystery spot in the main event.

Meanwhile a video featuring EC3, teasing the return of the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion, was shown just before the PPV went off the air.

Five titles were at stake during the event, which emanated from a closed set at Skyway Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz)

Tag Team Open Challenge

Impact certainly started things off hot with longtime fan favourites and TNA legends the Motor City Machine Guns accepting the open challenge laid down by The Rascalz. MCMG haven’t missed a beat and were the perfect tag team to go up against the incredibly athletic Rascalz.

The match was very competitive and while it may have been slightly clunky to start with, definitely came into its own in the final stretch, with MCMG scoring a big win.

Moose vs Tommy Dreamer

Old School Rules Match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship

This match was as expected and featured a whole host of weapons and big spots. Beforehand I don’t think anyone foresaw this match stealing the show and it was more a way of getting Moose on the pay-per-view.

The big stand out was how the lack of fans in the arena affects someone like Dreamer, whose spots would usually get a huge reaction. Moose hit an incredible dropkick, which was arguably the standout moment of the match.

Alisha Edwards vs Havok vs Kiera Hogan vs Kimber Lee vs Kylie Ray vs Nevaeh vs Madison Rayne vs Rosemary vs Susie vs Tasha Steelz vs Taya Valkyrie vs John E Bravo vs Katie Forbes

Gauntlet #1 Contender Match for the Impact Knockouts Championship

It was always going to be a challenge with so much talent in the ring but this match was easily the worst on the show. Typically in these contests each participant is able to get across their signature move but that didn’t happen and instead a lot of the women spent a large amount of time lying in the corners, while a select few danced in the ring. The only good thing about this match was the result and hopefully Kylie Ray will be able to escape being involved in anything like this again.

Willie Mack (c) vs Chris Bey

Singles match for the Impact X-Division Championship

This match was a solid X-Division bout between two of the best in the division. Mack and Bey traded athletic spots and it seemed all but guaranteed that the title would not be changing hands. That was until the last stretch of the match, in which Bey was able to shift the momentum and get the upper hand over Mack to become the X-Division Champion.

The North (Ethan Page Vs Josh Alexander) (c) vs Sami Callihan & Ken Shamrock

Tag Team Match for the Impact Tag Team Championship

It’s pretty difficult for the North to have anything but a solid match at this stage and this one was certainly a good outing. The North were able to get Callihan and Shamrock bickering between themselves, which was the beginning of the end for the challengers.

The biggest spot in the match came courtesy of MMA legend Shamrock’s insane dive to the outside. The result was definitely the right result and opens up some great opportunities for the North given the addition of some great teams to the promotion.

Deonna Purrazzo vs Jordynne Grace (c)

Singles Match for the Impact Knockouts Championship

Fans really enjoyed this physical bout between Grace and Purrazzo, who proved that you shouldn’t judge the Knockouts division based on that multi-person match earlier in the evening. Purrazzo was consistent in focusing on the arm of Grace, while Grace looked to over power the challenger.

These two have great chemistry and while Purrazzo was able to eventually get the victory – a huge moment for the new addition to Impact – hopefully this won’t be the last time we see these two share a ring.

Ace Austin vs Eddie Edwards vs Trey vs Eric Young vs Rich Swann

Fatal Five Way Match for the Vacant Impact World Championship

The main event teased us with a fourth contender who wasn’t announced until the match was just about to begin and out walked Rich Swann. While a great performer in his own right, Swann wasn’t the mystery opponent everyone was hoping for. Luckily the promotion then sent out a returning Eric Young, who had been largely rumoured to be heading back to the company where he made his name as a TNA World Champion, following mixed fortunes in WWE.

This match was a great ending to the show and helped to build some further programmes down the line, including Young attacking Swann’s leg to the point in which he nearly had to give up. Ultimately it boiled down to Edwards and Austin, and while most observers had picked Austin to win, it was the veteran Edwards who was able to capture the Impact World Championship and later be saved from a Madman Fulton attack by the debuting Good Brothers – aka Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson – meaning the landscape of Impact Wrestling has now changed drastically.
