Grand Divisions Mike Pompeo interview episode 71  Tennessean

Last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who visited Nashville to speak to a group of Christian counselors, sat down with Grand Divisions.

Pompeo’s trip to Nashville came just days after Vice President Mike Pence visited Middle Tennessee.

During a 10-minute interview, Pompeo fielded questions ranging from the Trump administration’s recent decision to pull American troops out of northern Syria and his message to Nashville’s Kurdish community to his office’s cooperation with the ongoing impeachment inquiry and religious freedom.

In this episode, you’ll hear the entire interview with Pompeo.

Later, we sit down with Laura Berlind and Mandy Pellegrin of The Sycamore Institute to discuss their latest report on medical debt in Tennessee.

This week, the nonprofit released a report which highlighted how widespread medical debt is – one out of four Tennesseans had such debt on their credit history – and what state lawmakers can do about it.

Later this month, the nonprofit will hold a panel discussion on the subject, which is open to the public. Those interested in attending can RVSP here.

And finally, we share a preview of an upcoming two-part special edition of Grand Divisions dedicated to retelling the story of Operation Rocky Top, the 1980s federal and state investigation into illegal bingo gambling. The mini-series will begin airing next week and features many of the key players involved or covering the massive corruption scandal.
