In lieu of its annual in-person bowling fundraiser, BrightStone announced it will hold a fundraiser online this year in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

BrightStone, a Franklin-based nonprofit, offers job training and learning programs for adults with developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges. Revenue from the annual fundraiser goes to support programs; staffers with the nonprofit said the event also helps to bring awareness to abilities and diversity within the special needs community.

“While fundraising is definitely a major goal of this event, every Bowlability participant who shares our mission with friends to encourage support also helps bring awareness about the amazing abilities of adults with special needs,” BrightStone Drector of Advancement Randy Elliott said in a release. “Bowlability is about celebrating the diversity of people in our community, treating each other with dignity and respect, and in the process uplifting us all.”

The online event, which will be sponsored by ALDI, will be held Aug. 11 from noon-8 p.m. Virtual bowlers can register and form teams at www.bowlability.com for a chance to win prizes. Participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100. The nonprofit will host hourly Facebook Live streams during the event.

Donations up to $17,000 will be matched by other sponsors and donors.

“While we won’t be gathering to bowl this year, we will be getting together online throughout the day to celebrate abilities with fun activities and prizes,” Event Manager Kristi Perkins said. “This virtual event will bring much needed awareness and income for BrightStone.”
