Cory Booker to headline Tennessee Democrats’ annual fundraising celebration  Tennessean

The Tennessee Democratic Party’s annual Three Star Celebration fundraising dinner will go on after all this year, but in a virtual format.

Headlining this year’s Oct. 2 event is U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, the party announced on Friday. Booker was also a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate.

“To follow the guidelines of the CDC surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually so that Democrats from across the state can honor the past, celebrate the present, and get fired up to fight for the future,” the party said in a statement.

The Tennessee Republican Party has not held its annual Statesmen’s Dinner, though GOP chair Scott Golden said earlier this summer that the party still intended to.

Funds raised at the dinner go toward Tennessee Democratic candidates running this fall, TNDP chair Mary Mancini told supporters in an email Friday.

The party each year makes up themes for each of the three stars on the Tennessee flag.

For 2020, one star represents the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, another represents the 60th anniversary of the Nashville sit-ins and a third star celebrates the party’s future, Mancini said.

The $25 tickets are available on TNDP’s website. Sponsorships range from $250 to $10,000.
