Students are 'Believing and Achieving' in Edgehill
April 13, 2011
On March 29, students and families from Carter Lawrence Elementary, Julia Green Elementary, Rose Park Middle School, J T Moore Middle School, and West End Middle School packed the auditorium at Rose Park to celebrate the academic achievements of youth from the Edgehill area. So often, we are bombarded by negative reports and images of students from this area, making it critical to highlight the success students, with the support of their parents, are having.

Lorraine Stallworth, family/school liaison for MNPS Hillsboro Cluster, started the Believing and Achieving program to celebrate student accomplishments. Held after each grading period, Believing and Achieving recognizes students for achieving Principal's List, honor roll and perfect attendance on their most recent report card. In addition, the category of “Most Improved” was recently added to recognize students who are working hard and making gains in the classroom. These students, who seldom receive academic awards, may only need an extra confidence-building gesture to spur them on to academic success. Parents are also recognized during the festivities for their continual support and contributions to the educational success of their children. To witness the excitement and pure joy on the faces of the children and their parents as they shook their principal’s hand and stood for pictures was priceless!

The final Believing and Achieving celebration for the 2010-2011 school year will be held at the end of May.
