HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — A day all about celebrating the “731” starts with giving back.

“This is our second annual 731Day service project,” United Way Resource Director Kristen Chambers said.

This year, United Way partnered with the Dream Center to re-landscape their new house in Humboldt.

“Just a way to give back to the community. We knew all the other businesses were doing a 731Day project, and a lot of our mission is about service to others,” Chambers said.

Volunteers of all ages were there digging holes, trimming bushes and laying new mulch.

“We’re hoping it’ll be a welcoming atmosphere for these ladies and the kids who will be entering this home,” Chambers said.

This was just the start of 731Day, a day all about celebrating being a West Tennessean.

Some say they’re proud to call West Tennessee home because they’re from here. Others have chosen to move here to make it home.

“I have always had a passion for Jackson and this community and all the many people here that are changing lives and helping to change lives each and every day,” Chambers said.

“I’m from the Nashville area, but I came here,” United Way Resource Director Krista Paul said. “It’s not a big city, but it’s not tiny, but it’s got a small-town feel. I just have so many people around to spend time with and do life with.”

Volunteers say at the end of the day, they hope the ladies at the Dream Center feel safe thanks to their work.

731Day events also include Porchfest, happening Wednesday night in LANA.

Twenty-two bands will perform throughout the night in the neighborhood.
