5-year-old boy drowns in South Nashville on Saturday night  The Tennessean

A 5-year-old boy drowned in South Nashville at a family gathering on Saturday.

A 5-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool in South Nashville on Saturday in what police are saying was an accident. 

Authorities identified the boy as A’Regis Scales.  

Officers responded to a home on Cedarview Dr., which is east of Nolensville Pike, around 6 p.m. Scales was at a family gathering at his grandmother’s house in the presence of multiple adults and children. 

At one point, Scales’ grandmother went outside looking for the young boy and she found him submerged in the shallow end of a pool.

Scales was quickly removed and resuscitation efforts began.

Scales was taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Metro police have said have initially said the boy’s death was deemed accidental.
